Swtor Sentinel Focus Pvp Build

Here were going to discuss aPvP based build, feel free to use this for PvE as well but I would recommend slightly tweaking this build if you are going to go that route. The focus tree is very strong for Pvp at level 50, and can really dominate other classes in 1v1 combat especially.
First Im going to talk a little bit about the general play style, and then follow up with some tips and reminders before going into the key abilities. So one thing you should know about Pvp playstyles is there is no real rotation or strict priority list, that certainly doesn't mean that you just button mash, it means that you need to pay extra attention to whats going on and using your proper abilities for the proper situation.
Force Sweep, these are two words you should know when playing Focus Pvp, this is going to be your main damage source. Now, don't just go in and spam Force Sweep, you'll want to make sure that first you have the Felling Blow buff from Force Leap which is something you'll be wanting to use regardless especially in Pvp, the leap deals some decent damage as well as immobilizing the target for 2 seconds and interrupting them if they are casting.
Now that youve leaped inand have Felling Blow buffed, your next force sweep will crit guaranteed. Another thing youll want to pay attention to is your Singularity stacks, the stack cap for this is 4 so youll want to try and have that, reason being is that it will increase the damage by force sweep by 50%
So you have 4 stacks of singularity, you force leaped in and have felling blow, and your Force Sweep is not only going to deal 50% increased damage, it is also going to guarantee crit and deal anywhere from 2k 4k damage depending on what class and how well geared your targeted opponent is.
If you dont have the Singularity stacks prior to force leaping in, youll want to try something like this: Force leap to your target, follow this with a Force Exhaustion, use a Zealous Strike and then once youve got the 4 stacks of Singularity use your Force Sweep as your Felling Blow lasts 15 seconds it will for sure still be up. If you use all these abilities your opponent will nearly be at 50% hp for an average opponent already.

Funcom developers are finally getting ready to let The Secret World and all its attendant mystery out of the proverbial bag. During this past week, we’ve had the opportunity to put the game through its paces to see how TSW is going to stand up to other MMO juggernauts that are either already on the scene or are imminently ready to hit the stage. The Secret World has been clothed in secrecy nearly from the start with Funcom only leaking information on a piecemeal basis over the past six months or so. We’ve had two press hands on events that gave fans a decent amount of information and there have been the usual interviews here and there but, really, TSW has been shrouded in mystery’s veil…until now.
Character Creation
Character creation in The Secret World is fairly detailed and allows players to select a look that is very unique. As with most MMOs today, TSW starts players off with a basic model that can be customized from hair color and style to chin depth. Inexplicably, however, you can’t alter your character’s body size in height, weight or any other way. I found that my poor Kal had the shoulders of a linebacker which was a bit disconcerting given how slender she was overall. Still, it’s not bad it’s just odd not to be able to select body style.
Players are given several clothing options from which to choose (with more coming we're told). You can try on different tops, pants, shoes and even “back wear” which is TSW-speak for jacket. I went with the basic t-shirt and cargo pants with bright red tennis shoes. Yep, I am a stunner.
Tokyo Flashback
The Tokyo Flashback cut scene is where the whole mystery of The Secret World begins. Players see their character waking at various points throughout the course of several days. The news is playing in the background giving players a notion of catastrophic events unfolding around the world.  Players hear talk of bee problems and even see one fly into their character’s mouth at one point. The narrator speaks of obvious government collusion in some sort of mysterious cover up. In short, the scene is being set for the mysteries that players will encounter as they move through the game.
Most importantly, the Tokyo Flashback cut scene shows your character beginning to discover strange and inexplicable new powers. At first frightened, the player gradually begins to master these new powers. Finally, a stranger shows up at your door warning you that these new found mystical powers will not be readily accepted by the “regular folks” and that, just maybe, you’d be interested in learning more about the Templars. You’re handed an invitation of sorts that ultimately leads you to London to find the headquarters of the mythical Templars.
The best lines in the game(so far!) are when the mysterious messenger says, “Oh, we’re the Templars. You may have heard of us. We’ve been around awhile.” The utter nerd in me that reads books featuring Templars and alternative views of history guffawed.
First Steps in London
Once you’ve completed the Tokyo Flashback, you’re on your way to London (Illuminatis begin in NYC). This is the first time that you are actually working your character and game mechanics are taught through a group of quests that occur in the London Underground. You are accompanied by several other Templar wannabes, or at least that’s what I assumed they were. You travel through the underground facing off against monsters and practicing your combat skills in the subway system.
There were some pretty weird visuals during this particular set of quests, the most jarring being when my character was passed out for some reason and my character model kept flashing back and forth with someone else's other character model. It was intentional, I get that, but it's just jarring.
The Secret World doesn’t make fighting monsters just another walk in the park. You have to think when you’re in battle. Monsters don’t just run at you and stay in front allowing you to take them down. They come fast. They come in packs. They move. They hit damn hard too. Well, not too hard in the origin story, but you get my drift. You will need to stay on your toes and keep moving or you’ll quickly be overrun once you hit the larger environs of The Secret World.
You and your newfound companions face off with a lot of zombie-esque type monsters while underground but it’s an excellent training ground though if you’re not going to be a gun toting fool like I am, it’s a bit underwhelming. I like guns so it fit what I was going to eventually take on anyway.
I have to be honest here and tell you that my first misgivings began to surface at this early stage of the game. These are not necessarily game breaking misgivings but they gave me pause.
I find that the character animations in The Secret World are seriously lacking. When running, character movement isn’t bad. When in combat, however, I found the animations simply lacking in every imaginable way. The two footed “floating” jump is just odd. The movement around monsters and in combat is just not very fluid when compared to games like Guild Wars 2 or Star Wars: The Old Republic, both games that excel in this area. This could be a huge problem for Funcom since, as we all know, you have one chance to impress people and if they’re seeing things that disturb them at the earliest stages of the game, tt might give them a good excuse to give up before getting into the meat of the game and the content where it shines.
All of this has me rather confused as I have always felt that Age of Conan has some of the best character battle animations of any MMO on the planet today. And it’s a three year old game on top of it all! Why The Secret World didn’t match itself to the same level of excellence in Age of Conan is a mystery to me. 
I also mentioned earlier that I wasn’t overly thrilled with character creation either, another place that Age of Conan has it over TSW. I find this inexplicable since the two games share the same engine. I can only hope that improvements will continue to be made in these areas to at the very least meet the same standard set by Age of Conan. This may be one of the "elements of polish" the team refers to in its known issues list, but still.
Anyway, after working through the training quests, players land in London and are met by a local cop who fills in some lore behind the Templars. She gives you some general directions to the Templar HQ and you’re off on your merry way. London is nicely realized with lots of people walking around and shops, movie theaters and more to check out. The overall impression is, however, a bit dead. Yes, things move and there are some ambient sounds but you can interact with very little at this point. I was rather disappointed but not surprised since this is very common in all MMOs.

Rift : Plane of Earth Revealed

And the Titans. Once rulers of an empire within the Plane of Earth, these enormous beings make the tallest mortal look like a toy. They are not brutal, the Titans. They are not stupid. They are Earth at its most dangerous: wise, cold, mighty beyond comprehension. And they will have an empire again.

Rift General Article: Remembering History

A cool afternoon breeze brushed my face. Leaves rustled and swirled and I could almost convince myself that nothing had changed since I had been gone. As the breeze settled, a piece of parchment caught my eye gently fluttering into the branch of a tree. I retrieved it to find what looked like a journal page written in a child's script. I rolled it carefully and placed it in my backpack. An acquaintance in Meridian would probably be interested.
I surveyed the ground where death had been only moments before and saw the sun glint off something almost totally buried in the dirt. A gentle tug unearthed a shield that I vaguely recognized. None of the creatures had carried a shield, which made this find all the more intriguing. I slung it across my back as another puzzle for my Meridian contact.
I headed toward the city, trying to shake the cobwebs loose from my brittle memory. I have little recollection of my past life, although I do remember fighting against the denizens of the planar rifts before. Most of my thoughts have been but whispers and fleeting images as if I was in a drunken haze. Knowing the future .... can I really be a savior? So many more questions I need answered.
Coming out of my deep thoughts, I found that I had instinctively appeared at the shop of my contact, a collection dealer in Epoch Plaza. He had helped me move some antiquities in the past and no one knew more about the lore and history of Telara.
"Welcome, good sir, welcome. How may I assist …," the voice trailed off and the speaker went white. "I know those eyes. You were dead. I thought I was rid of you."
"I'm back, Enrinke. I missed you, too," I said, ignoring the jab. "I got a few items that may interest you."
"I'm haven't been in that business for years, Darkartist, and I could care less if you ARE an Ascended. Now get away before you drive away customers," the dealer said.
I dropped the parchment and shield on the table and Enrinke's tone changed almost immediately. "That's a Freemarch Warden's shield! Where did you find it?" she asked, caressing it as it if were a newborn.. She then looked at the parchment. "And this is a page from a child's diary detailing the day the rifts first appeared in Freemarch. These are fantastic finds, Darkartist."
I explained the circumstances surrounding the discoveries, and as she listened, Enrinke still eyed the items intently. "There are more artifacts like this throughout Telara. Each set offers its own story. If you can bring me what you find, I'll provide you with something you may find useful in return. Perhaps having you back won't be so bad for business after all."
I gave Enrinke a half-smile and headed to the bank. I knew I still had much to piece together, but there was little time to think and reflect. The artifacts I found would help, but either way, the life I once knew was long gone. Instinct would keep me alive, but I needed to know what I had lost, if only to give meaning to helping secure Telara's future from Regulos. I had a headache. I needed a stiffer drink than anything I carried with me and a bed. Answers would come in due time.

Guild Wars 2 Column: The Quest for Looking Good

The health bar now showed zero HP; we knew we had defeated the boss.  We went to tell the tale of our great battle so that we might receive gifts of powerful items and praise.  I received a great set of armor.  It was both great in power, and had the look that would strike fear into my enemies.  After putting the armor on, I began to strut around the capital city to show off my prize.  But my spirits dropped, as everyone around me also had the same armor that I was wearing.  I suddenly lost a huge connection with my character.
I would like to take the time to go over something that is important to me as a player of MMORPGs, and that is the importance of your character’s “look”.  Why is this important?  To me, playing the game is like a watching an epic tale unfold before me.  I like to think that  the character’s tale is unique and different, and it really helps if they look unique as well.  For other players, their character is a representation of themselves in the game, so that they may be a part of an epic story.  Having a way to customize your look is very important so that we can stay connected to our character and the game.  So let’s take a look at a few ways that Guild Wars 2 tackles this issue.
Let’s start off when you actually create your character.  Most games bring us to a screen that lets us cycle through some faces, hair styles and body colors to choose from.  For some, this seems like it would work, but all the players end up looking very similar.  From what we hear during the Arena Net Q&A session from Comic Con, we’ll get to select from preset choices, and then we can use slide bar interfaces to customize the look of chosen features even further, to fit the look we are trying to get.  What’s really great about this is that the way they explained this feature: it’s different for each race.  This really shows the amount of detail they are pouring in to let us really get we want, no matter what race we play.  We will get to see these features more in depth when gamescom comes around in the end of August, so get ready to see this all in action.
Something that has happened to me quite often in other games is that I have a set of armor that looks great, then I find another set of armor that has better stats, but I hate the way it looks.  That’s why I’m really excited about a new feature in Guild Wars 2, called transmutation stones.  What the stones do is attach the look of one set armor to another, so if you really liked the look of one set armor, but need the stats of another, just use the transmutation stones to make the better armor look the way you want.  These stones will also work on weapons, allowing players to look exactly how they want in battle, whether it’s a warrior that wants to look like a drunken ninja, or a necromancer that wants to look so sinister it would make Sauron cry.
Another cool feature, for customizing your armor, allows you to overlap armor pieces with one another.  An example that has been given to us shows a coat that also has a helmet and shoulder armor built in.  You can use the built in parts for your look, or use the parts you already have.  This will add to the diversity we see in the game world, as everyone has different styles.
One thing that bothers me in a lot of games, is when I get a piece of armor that would look awesome if it wasn’t neon yellow or pink, because all my other armor pieces are gray, black and a dark blue.  What bothers me even more is if I can’t dye or change the color of the piece at all.  Some games have used a dye system before, including the original Guild Wars, but it still had some issues.  They have revamped the dye system for Guild Wars 2.  To compare to the original games dye system, you had to try mixing basic colors to get the color you were looking for.  This system worked to an extent, but it really didn’t give the results players were looking for.  With the new system, they decided to just make something like 254 colors with thousands of hues without the need of mixing.  That is an insane amount of colors to choose from and really opens up for some fine tuning your customization. What makes this system even better is that the color is affected also by the materials of your armor.  For example, leather that has red applied, will look different than if it is applied to iron, which means they are paying attention to detail, and that keeps the look more realistic and believable.
I fully believed that ArenaNet would be the company that would break the shackles other companies slap on us, stopping us from having characters that look the way we want.  They are a company that isn’t afraid to let concept artists try new methods and styles, rather than standing still or going backwards.  This allows the game to look great in every aspect, including our characters, which is important to letting us stay connected to the game.   With all these features for making our characters looking great, it’s just another reason to be excited about Guild Wars 2.

Blizzard: Diablo 3 patch restriction to Act 1 an 'unintended consequence'

Blizzard's patch 1.0.3 for Diablo 3 restricts anyone who buys a digital copy of the game to play the Starter Edition for up to 72 hours, limiting them to play only Act 1 to the Skeleton King, and only to level 13. While the restrictions themselves aren't a bug, the limitation to Act 1 and level 13 is an "unintended consequence" and will be corrected in another update "as soon as possible," Blizzard tells Eurogamer.

Rift Interviews: Spoils of War Prelude Event Preview

Trion Worlds and the Rift development team have set up an aggressive and impressive schedule of updates to the game. Following last month’s v1.1 River of Souls event, players were left wondering what was coming next. MMORPG.com News Manager Suzie Ford had the opportunity to chat with Trion Design Producer Hal Hanlin and Lore Lead Morgan Lockhart about the forthcoming v1.2 Spoils of War patch. Our discussion centered primarily on the prelude event that is scheduled to run from May 4th through May 9th.
As the name implies, the Spoils of War is related to the River of Souls event. Telarans and the Ascended successfully overcame Alsbeth and her minions and now the rewards have arrived. The prelude offers players four new daily quests centered on the mysterious treasure-like items literally falling from the sky in some cases.
In the first instance, golden coins have been raining on Sanctum and Meridian but when city folk pick them up, they are corrupted by a strange taint. Because the Ascended are a bit more resistant to such corruption, the Mendicant Order and the College of Planar Studies are anxious to have these tainted coins collected and returned for further study. The collection of coins is a once daily quest that takes place only in the capital city of each faction.
If coins falling from the sky aren’t enough to give pause for thought, players will face an increase in Earth and Fire rifts that are exploding across Telara even in places they had not been previously seen.  Interest will undoubtedly be piqued, however, by the fragments of ancient dragon eggshells being dropped by invaders and Rift monsters. Again, the College of Planar Studies and the Mendicant Order are both interested in having these dragon eggshells rounded up for further study. There are three daily requests sending the Ascended all over Telara in search of these rare but mysterious items.
When returning with either gold coins or ancient dragon eggshells, players will be rewarded in impressive ways as the “Spoils of War” name implies. On turning in the quest items, players will receive a container that may hold, for instance, a limited-time companion pet called the Gritty Kitty. No, this isn’t a dirty cat but is one that has been rescued from the Plane of Earth. Other rewards might include rare hard-to-find artifacts, crafting currency and even plaques of achievement.
Both Lockhart and Hanlin described the prelude event and directly tied it to the overarching story that Rift embodies. Quests are story driven. Invasions and rift activity are tied to the ongoing and evolving history of Telara. Hanlin compared Rift to live theater and said that the Trion team is nimble and can do things that other MMOs simply cannot do. If the prelude to the Spoils of War update is any indication, he may be right on the mark.
While they wouldn’t confirm or deny that the v1.2 update will arrive on May 10th, it’s probably safe to infer that this is the case. See you in Telara!

Have you ever sat around your cubicle, thinking to yourself how awesome it would be to continue experiencing your favorite MMO while at work?  What about hanging around at some sort of social gathering, not really “feeling it,” and just wishing you had something better to do?  Your prayers will soon be answered.   Follow me, into the realm of words, sketches, and ‘what ifs’ as we look into the mobile aspect of the Guild Wars 2 Extended Experience.
Guild Wars 2 will have a free mobile app, that will also be made available on web browsers, that will ‘extend the experience’ away from our computer desks.  We do know a few things about the app, like its ability to link to the auction house, checking in on what your guild mates are up to, letting you chat with friends, and the most important bit of information, it isn’t done yet.  With the app being unfinished, there is room for ArenaNet to really take the app to places no other MMO app has gone before.  Let’s dive in and talk about what I’d like to see the app do, shall we?
Wishful Thinking
First off, we know the app will be connected to the auction house.  Buying and selling items will be made easy, allowing us to continue on our quest for riches while not actually playing in the game.  One thing I would like to see though, involves organizing a guilds vault, assuming there will be one.  It would be pretty nice if the app allowed us to trade, buy and sell with other guilds using the goodies in the vault, strengthening your alliance and taking the social aspect to a new level.
That brings me to the next part, the social aspect of the mobile app.  The app will allow us to track and chat with our friends and fellow guild mates who are playing the game. Players can plan gatherings and tactics for tackling dungeons.  This is a basic, yet nice feature but what else can they do to keep you connected to your friends and guild mates? It would be pretty awesome if they found a way, so that while on the app, you can assist a fellow player through a dungeon or quest.  This could be very difficult to do as many smart phones don’t have the graphical power to play a massive game like GW 2, but that can’t stop us from imagining right?
Although there are barriers on mobile devices, it may be possible to have the app only access certain areas, breaking everything into parts, allowing the app user to assume the role of a small helper, such as a fire imp or a tiny golem.  For instance when the player in game reaches an encounter, the app user can cast special spells against enemies, giving the player an advantage, or causing enemies to drop a few extra gold pieces.   The app user may also be able to open secret passages for players to find hidden Easter Eggs.  It wouldn’t lead to any special or rare items, as some players may never have access to the extended experience.  To tackle the lack of processing power, the app would have a much lower graphic setting than the full PC version.  Mobile devices have come a long way however, so the graphics won’t be as terrible as some full PC MMOs we have played.
With this imaginary app feature, you get to help other players that are logged in, but what about connecting to other mobile users?  Let’s say that the app could run separate campaigns.  To make this work, it may be necessary to change the gameplay elements to keep it running smoothly.
To give an example, and once again this is just us using our imaginations, but maybe have the app play like a dungeon crawler style game, where you take control of character in the history of Guild Wars.  You and other mobile players could go and witness the tales of legends with your own eyes. You can have a basic attack, and a few abilities to go around in battles and events that take place in Tyria’s history.  It doesn’t have to play just like Guild Wars, though that would be ideal, but you must admit it would extend the overall experience of the game world and continue to connect players to each other.
Back to Reality
After some imagining, it is pretty easy to say that this mobile app can really bring a new experience to the lands of Tyria.  The app, as we currently know it, will help us connect to our fellow players while AFK.  We will also be granted the ability to buy and sell our loot in the auction house from anywhere.   We have also been told that he app may allow us to connect to information sites, and show points of interest to in game players by pinging the world map.   Another feature that has been discussed, allows you to select a player to view their stats.  That is quite functional for a free app, but it has been quite some time since the Extended Experience has been announced, so it is impossible to say what other features will be included, until they actually show us.  Until then, let your imaginations wander.

Unless you were hiding under a rock this past weekend, you probably heard about the login issues that were encountered for many users, including myself, during the Guild Wars 2 beta.  The list of different error messages seemed to grow as the weekend began.  As the errors appeared on player’s screens they reach for their pitchforks, and like a swarm of angry Grawl, they rushed into the official forums and Facebook page to post comments of rage.  It was like the Mass Effect 3 ending debate all over again!  The players argued that they had a right to play a clean running game, and that ArenaNet was robbing them of an exciting beta experience.  Do these players have a right to be angry?  Is it fine for their anger to be thrown towards issue that appeared in a beta?
The first thing I would like to remind everyone about is a word that is the key factor in this past weekend’s event.  That word is beta.  It wasn’t Guild Wars 2 “Release Day of Awesome”, it was Guild Wars 2 “Beta”, meaning not the final build.  The reason AreanNet and other companies as well, offer the public a chance to play the game is to allow the players to experience the game they’ve been waiting to play.  Another big reason is that the players will experience issues like glitches, technical issues, and balance problems.  These things exist in betas.  The developers can come up with these themselves, but having players come in and help and expose the problems on a mass scale can cut down the development time.  I do the same thing when I need to test a game.  Companies I’ve worked for have done this as well.  Everyone does it, and they do it to find the issues that are hidden in the game so that it doesn’t happen after the game is finished. Yes, you had to buy the game to get into this beta, but folks: you can cancel your pre-purchase and you can get your money back if the beta experience left you that sour.
Let’s focus on the login issues for a moment, as those made up a majority of the issues that made players Hulk out.  The issues happened a lot during the first and second day of the event causing people to say that they were robbed of their beta time.  They felt like they weren’t taking part in the event at all.  I myself had the login issues on the second day of the beta, but let me say this: “Everyone having issues over the weekend did indeed take part in the beta event.”  You showed ArenaNet issues they might not have expected, and that allowed them to be fixed.  Log in issues were present in the previous betas, but not in an alarming number. And by the weekend’s conclusion most problems were gone.
Lag and frame rate issues also caused some angry forum riots.  I’m not going to go into them too much, as I already talked about my experience with this in the past beta events.  This all comes down to that key word, and I feel like I’m repeating myself here: beta.  The game isn’t done yet, and things haven’t been optimized fully.  Over the course of the beta events, I have noticed improvements, but still I can’t judge.  I can only speculate.
There will be more Guild Wars 2 beta events.  A question was asked on the forums about how many beta events were still left.  A developer answered saying they had a plan, but if needed, it would change.  To me that means they will do what it takes to make the game run smooth in time for the release.   ArenaNet learned a lot, and they will continue to learn as more of these events come and go.  The issues we experienced now will be gone in the future, and if they aren’t then we can get mad.  Heck, it seems like things cleared up a lot on Sunday, so already we can see progress being made.  I also hope that many of you toss your anger aside and take a look at what a developer has to go through to get a game finished.  The last moments can be the craziest, and are personally my least favorite in game design, but it must be endured.  If you think you had a rough weekend, just imagine what the ANet team went through.

What can I say about Guild Wars 2? I followed the news about features and read some press info, watched some video beforehand, but otherwise didn’t oversaturate myself with information. I wasn’t afraid of giving into the hype; it was more a sense of wanting to experience this return to Tyria in a fresh light.
The beta weekend has been over for a couple of days now, and I’m still feeling withdrawal. Now, I am not going to go and get all fangirl on you guys, but let me say that the game will not be everything to everyone. This is still not going to be a sandbox, there are no PvP servers, and you can’t loot players or compete with them for resources. That said the promises from ANet that they were looking to do something different were definitely not hot air.
This game encourages players to play together in a way that games haven't in quite a while.
I was more than impressed with the way things felt playing. Events in the world were often filled with players cooperating with each other on multiple levels. Giving XP and achievements for reviving fallen players and allies was an incredibly deft move. All this brought me back to the days of strangers pausing to help you out on the road or in the middle of a field and my own times stopping to heal randoms or to even stop and chat. In GW2, even if you didn't always explicitly communicate with one another, there were a ton of opportunities to effectively join up and work together.
I jumped into the water and began killing salmon to level my weapon skills. Someone the same level came along and we fought through the depths together for the next half hour or so, rezzing each other if necessary and advancing together. That was neither the first nor last time I saw something like that happen. Nodes and resources, as well as mobs were all something you could share, so there's never kill-stealing or ninja-ing a node out from under someone.
Perhaps a more competitive player might take issue with the way things work, but as an Explorer and Socializer on ye olde Bartle scale of things, this is exactly the type of game that I have been wanting for some time.
Speaking of exploration, Tyria feels incredibly vast. In addition to pure terrain, there are a whole lot of layers to places, and additional real estate underwater and vertically. This is the first game since LOTRO where I’ve simply spent time running around exploring in awe. And underwater exploration had me going “This is so cool!” In my head with each new discovery. There’s a whole second city under Lion’s Arch, as well as some awesome animals and people. And the city of Divinity’s Reach has three levels and is huge, yet it feels lively and real. It’s also, like the rest of the game, very beautiful to look at. One of my favorite (and by no means only) moments where I stopped suddenly caught off guard, was when passing through the path to the Hall of Dwayna only to see this beautiful aquarium built right into the walls. Touches like these make an already beautiful game even better. The variety of everything everywhere adds up to something special.
Aside from the hardcore full-loot PvP fan, GW2 lets you handle objectives without fighting, by killing mobs, or sometimes a third method. There’s a quest in which you must honor the Norn Snow Leopard spirit. You could complete the quest in three distinct ways: kill the mobs attacking the leopards, destroy their nests, or….play with the snow leopard cubs in the area. I discovered the action key changed to “Play” and tried it out. And thus, I mostly completed it by playing with the kittens. Seriously.
And one of the best parts is that this “multiple ways to complete your goal” philosophy extends to PvP. There are gates to guard and repair, siege tools, and more in the Mists during WvW. During structured instant PvP, there are large weapons, capture and defend points, and other ways that you can help out your team.  The variety here, in addition to the fun combat and the way people work together in just about every aspect of Tyrian life, made me want to PvP much more.

Rift Previews: Conquest Preview and Impressions

Rift’s Conquest has me very excited. I’ll admit it.  I’m a Trion fan and I’m not ashamed of it.  I believe Trion served to raise the standard on how a Triple-A MMO should be released in this decade when it launched Rift.  I’m not a Fanboi though and will acknowledge their short comings with Rift on launch.  The account security issue was very frustrating on release.  I did not personally have my account compromised but I knew a few people that did.  Trion did manage to rise above though and their customer service came through.  Because I had a ticket open with customer service and was not answered in less than 24 hours I was awarded a full set of resistance runes and a free month of game play.  Bravo Trion.  They also run a great veteran’s rewards program which I am a huge proponent of.
But enough of the past, let’s take a look at what is to come.  There are a number of things to get excited about in patch 1.9: Conquest.  Besides the numerous bug fixes that appear with every patch and hot fix there are five key items that will be introduced in 1.9:
Low Level Instant Adventures
Mentoring
New Prestige Cap and Armor
Conquest PVP
New World Event
First, let’s check out the low level Instant Adventures.
No longer will this system be restricted to players at level cap.  This could be a great way to level alts depending on the amount of experience that Trion will award participants.  This change will go great with the new Mentoring System that is slated for 1.9.
Currently on the PTS the Mentoring System will allow any player over level 11 to set their character to any level lower than their natural level.  Players will not be able to raise, or bolster, a player’s level higher.  When a player reduces their level their stats will also be reduced to what is considered appropriate for a character of that level.  Trion has not specified if you will be a stronger mentor at lower levels based on the gear you have at your natural level.  There will be a bonus for mentoring though.  As long as the mentor is less than two levels higher than the level of the person they are grouped with and the mentor is more than five levels lower than their natural level, the group will receive bonus experience.  This adds incentive to go out there and help your fellow ascended level up and you can use the low level instant adventures to do it.
This patch will also see two large changes to PvP.  The prestige level cap will be raised to 50.  With this increase their will be new titles to earn to go along with the new prestige ranks as well as new sets of PvP armor.  The biggest change in 1.9; however, will be the addition of Conquest.   Players across most MMOs constantly scream for 3-faction PvP and Trion has finally answered this call.  Conquest will be a new 3 faction PvP system set in an alternate reality of Stillmoor.
These three factions, the Dominion, the Oathsworn, and the Nightfall are independent of whether or not you are a Guardian or Defiant and consist of both.  Players will choose based upon their personal preference which group to join and will fight for this group in Conquest.  A few months ago Trion introduced slivers into Telara.  These slivers allow for pockets of alternate realities to exist.  Conquest takes place inside one of these slivers and this is how Trion can get around the lore implications of Defiants and Guardians working together and against each other.
It will also allow for the addition of more Conquest areas in the future.   There are two ways to win Conquest.  The first is to capture and hold over 40% of the points of interest on the map.   These points of interested are referred to as Conquest Extractors.  The second way to win conquest is to hold the most points of interest when 5000 kills are reached in a match.  Once either one of these objectives is achieved the match will go into lockdown mode and a 10 minute count down will start.  This will allow for the two losing factions to make a last push to try and knock off the winning faction.
Crafting will also be involved in conquest.  Players will be able to collect sourcestones on the battlefield and turn it in at their camps.  This sourcestones will go into a pool from which anyone on your team in conquest can craft from.  Players will be able to craft beneficial buffs that will help anyone on their side during conquest.  Players can also earn conquest bonuses that will carry over with them into their home realm.  Conquest, like the warfronts, will also be cross server.  I was able to play Conquest on the PTS for about 2 hours during the last testing event.
I think that Trion is on to a winning idea.  The capture and hold mechanic can make for a very dynamic battlefield, especially if there is a high population.  There are more than enough points that you could end up chasing each other around for hours.  You can see the footage from my play through in the video below.  Most of the PvP can be found after the first hour mark, before that the population was pretty low and I was just node hoping and exploring the new systems interfaces.

Last week ArenaNet had a little stress test for Guild Wars 2, and boy was it stressful.  Seriously, AHHHHH!  Okay, so it wasn’t that stressful, unless you’re one of the devs or community team.  It was a nice one day event that helped both ArenaNet and the players find more issues to patch things up a bit.  It wasn’t a huge event.  Just think of it as them trying to find every little load-bearing issue that hides in the game.  They weren’t looking for our opinions on balancing the professions this time.  There were a lot of things that did come up for players, so let’s take a look at what was found.  
A one day beta event seems a bit odd, and on a Monday it is confusing because people have to work.  ArenaNet just needed one day for a good number of players to try to log in and see what issues are still around.  Were people still having login issues?  How were players PCs performing?  Did any new issues come up that were overlooked from the last event?  These are the questions they were asking, and by having us play for just a day they can get the answers to make things run better for the next larger weekend event.  ArenaNet did say that they had a schedule in mind, but would change it when needed.
Players did post on the forums and the official Facebook page for Guild Wars 2.  I read through some of them to see how things were running for other players.  It seems that the responses were really mixed for performance issues. Some players had some serious frame rate issues in the previous beta, and those issues were continuing for them.  Strangely enough, other players were seeing an improvement.  This is a bit weird since this stress test was also CPU locked, but it happens.  So if you have an insane rig, don’t feel bad if you’re still running the game with a slower frame rate than what you were expecting.   After all this testing, the end result will be everyone seeing a huge improvement in performance.
Yep, some bugs are still running around and thankfully players were reporting them.  They ranged from certain maps and missions freezing up while loading.  Some complaints involved the game crashing while players tried to create new characters.   I read one player that had an issue where the game was running and it had good frame rate, but the graphics were distorted.   I kind of wish I would have actually seen that! These were just to name a few.   These types of bugs weren’t as common last time, or rather, we just didn’t see them for all the other issues overshadowing them.
The major difference I saw in this little stress test was that players were being a bit more helpful than just going on a rampage, bashing everything that crossed their paths.  Despite all the issues, players were actually giving as many details as they could to help ArenaNet identify issues.  All this team work, people helping each other out, I might just start crying.
Overall this stress test didn’t have anything new.  No new content, and bugs and errors still plagued players' monitors.  If you missed out on this tiny event, don’t worry.  It wasn’t like we got to give the Asura or the Sylvari a try.   Now that I think about it, when will that happen?  Anyway, the biggest thing you missed out on was helping ArenaNet find something to do, but it looks like they have a to-do list already.   With the next beta event right around the corner, and the notion of release day drawing closer, I think the real stress test is just beginning for the ambitious ArenaNet development team.
